​David Martin is a photographer, writer and director based in West Vancouver, British Columbia.   

David has worked in communications arts for almost 30 years, first as a copywriter and creative director in the advertising industry, then as founder and president of Hyphen Communications, a Vancouver-based branding and film company.  Photography has been the creative constant throughout his professional career.

His photography assignments have taken him to four continents and every Canadian province.  In addition to his work for clients like Goldcorp, YVR International Airport, Kal Tire and Four Host First Nations, David was one of the contributing photographers for ‘With Glowing Hearts’, the official Vancouver 2010 commemorative book.  His advertising work has been recognized at the Cannes International Advertising Festival, Clio Awards, London International, Hollywood International, Marketing Awards and Cassies, among others.  At Hyphen, he created the motto and thematic campaign for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. David also directed ‘The Gathering’, a documentary on the aboriginal participation in the Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Games.  After debuting at the DOXA film festival in Vancouver, ‘The Gathering’ been since been screened at festivals around the world, including stops in Toronto, Montreal, Finland and Nepal.

Trees, water and rocks are the dominant themes in his landscape work, often expressed through long time-exposures, deep depth-of-field and abstract compositions.  The 2012 Harmony Arts Festival is David’s first public showing of his landscape and nature work.
